Today, we're traveling back in time to talk about what historical era we would like to live in. I think, hands down, I would love to travel back to the mid-late 1800's and live Laura Ingalls Wilder's life.
I love that they made everything they needed back then. You need a house? There's a forest. Go cut down some trees, and build yourself a log cabin! You need some food? Go dig up some dirt and plant a garden. That fascinates me! I would love to have those skills!
I also think about how resilient people were in those times. Life was hard. There was illness, weather, and economic problems that forced people to fight for their lives. I admire their ability to do so, and it would be incredible to see that in real life.
Having read all of the Little House books, I am most impressed by how much nature Laura and her family saw. I remember reading in one of the books about the deer. They didn't know to be afraid of people, since people were fairly rare in these parts then, so Laura could walk right up to them. That amazes me! There were trees and creeks and real prairies and all kinds of cool animals - it would be awesome to experience our world in that way.
The relationships between the families represent another reason I'd like to travel back to this time. They trusted each other - like, really, truly trusted each other. They helped each other with everything. How beautiful it would be to see that! Heaven knows, a lot of that trust and love is missing in our world today.
A trip to a much simpler time would be good for me, I think.
